Stay Calm and Fit This Time of the Year

Yes, it’s easier said than done! With the hustle and bustle of this Holiday Season, and cookies and eggnog tempting us, it’s so easy to get side-tracked. What’s supposed to be a celebration of Christ’s birth usually turns out into something that will sap our energy and add pounds to our already struggling weight. How do we avoid all the real holiday wrecker?

How do we stay calm and fit (physically and spiritually) this time of the year?

Here are just few of my goals that I want to share with you:

1. Focus on The REAL THING.

It’s time to ask ourselves, “What is the reason for all these celebration?" Are we decorating our home with all the glitters to impress our guests, or are we doing all the preparation with our mind on the Reason for the Season? To keep my focus on Jesus, I am reading the Book of Luke again, at least two Chapters a day, and open my heart to the message of the Scripture.

2. Take good care of YOU.

I used to dread cold, bleak months because I was prone to “winter blues.” I promise myself that I will take good care of myself. I am sticking to healthy eating- more fruits and vegetables, and daily exercise. Since I work nights, I am usually deprived of normal sleep patterns, so I try to get plenty of nap time and sleep more. Get plenty of sunshine and yes, stop and smell the roses. Nature is calming. I believe to better take care of others, I have to take good care of myself first.

3. ‘Tis the Season for GIVING.

And I don’t mean expensive gifts. The most important things in life are free. Give the following gifts:

- Gift of Encouragement. Instead of just signing my name in a Christmas card, I’ll try to say something nice that will make the receiver smile. Christmas is one of the best time to say how we appreciate someone.
- Gift of Prayer. Tell someone who is in need or sick that you are praying for them. And do it.
- Gift of Time. Spend time with loved ones. And for the first time, learn to listen to what they are saying.
- Gift of Sharing. Everyday is an opportunity to share what God has done in your life. Everyday is a gift and an opportunity. Give the Gift of sharing the Good News.

May this Christmas Season find you at peace, in good health, and filled with joy overflowing . Let your light shine ! Have a Merry Christmas everyone!

“Glory to God in the highest.
And on earth peace, goodwill toward men.” Luke 2:14
